Tya Abe

Tya Abe is an Architect currently based in New Mexico driven by interests in contributing to spaces that hold and energize, from our tangible built environments to the less tangible spaces shaped by community. She values architectural practice in which many worlds fit, practices that center relationships and collaborative, considerate problem solving.    Growing-up in Bali, Indonesia, she has a deep appreciation for community, culture, relationships to landscape and expanded notions of time. Part Japanese-American and part Balinese, she is familiar with the dance of being both a part of and in between a number of cultures. Her paths in architecture have been informed by studies in sustainability, experiences as both carpenter and architect on construction sites and working at firms with focuses on low-embodied carbon materials and community engagement.   She is nourished by rocks (and climbing them), dance floors, mountains and oceans.
